Apartments could go up near Comerica Park in Detroit

DETROIT, MI – The Ilitch family is making moves to transform surface lots into apartments next to Comerica Park in downtown Detroit.

The Detroit News reports that one of Detroit’s billionaire families is moving forward in talks with St. John’s Episcopal Church, a historic church on Woodward Avenue bordering the I-75 service drive, to erect a five-story apartment complex on parking lots along Woodward and Montcalm Street.

The 300-unit apartment building would be steps away from Comerica Park, down the street from Ford Field, blocks from the new Red Wings arena and entertainment district site and across Woodward from the Fox Theatre.

According to The Detroit News, Olympia Development of Michigan, the development arm of the Ilitches, is currently in the middle of negotiations with St. John’s.

The apartments would be a part of “Wildcat Corner.”
