Shooting of 4-year-old in Ann Arbor believed accidental

Police believe the shooting of a child in Ann Arbor on Monday morning was accidental.

Ann Arbor police Detective Sgt. Pat Hughes said the 4-year-old boy was injured when a gun discharged and a bullet grazed his head.

Authorities were called to the scene about 8:15 a.m. May 11 in the 3000 block of Valencia Circle, off Stone School Road, for a reported gunshot wound, said Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance.

The boy had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in stable condition, Hughes said.

Three other children, two boys and a girl that are 7, 8 and 9-years-old, were in the home at the time of the shooting, he said.

The injured boy is believed to be a resident at the home, Hughes said. Police were still determining his relation to the other children.

Police are still investigating to determine whether an adult was home, who owned the gun and how exactly the gun was discharged, Hughes said.
