Vote postponed: $650M Red Wings site developer delays vote on historic Detroit hotel

DETROIT, MI – This time it’s the developer — not the city of Detroit — pushing back a vote in relation to the $650 million Red Wings arena and entertainment district project.

Jennifer Ross, architectural historian with the Detroit Historic District Commission, confirmed Monday evening that Olympia Development of Michigan asked for more time before making its case for razing the 13-story Hotel Park Avenue to the seven-member panel.

“The applicant for the Red Wings stadium has requested that we postpone, so the meeting will not be held tomorrow,” Ross said in a voicemail she left MLive at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Olympia and the HDC were supposed to meet in a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. MORE
