Michigan football staffer Jim Minick arrested on suspicion of DUI, and is ‘suspended indefinitely’

ANN ARBOR — Michigan associate athletic director for football Jim Minick was arrested by Pittsfield Township Police early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the department confirmed Wednesday.

Minick was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Pittsfield Township early Saturday morning and refused an on-site breathalyzer test. He was not charged with a DUI, and the investigation is ongoing as the department awaits the results of a blood test.

Fox 2 in Detroit first reported the news.

“It was a single-car crash, we don’t have the results back yet, it’s still an open investigation,” Deputy Chief Gordy Schick said Wednesday evening.

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh released a statement on the matter later in the evening, explaining that Minick has been suspended indefinitely.

“Jim Minick made a regrettable decision last week and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated,” the statement read. “Jim makes no excuses, regrets this decision and understands the consequences for his actions. Due to the serious nature of this event, Jim Minick has been suspended indefinitely and we ask for your understanding while we address the situation.”
