Gun found at Southfield-Lathrup High School

Additional security measures are being taken after a student brought a gun to Southfield-Lathrup High School Thursday. The gun was not loaded. Superintendent  Lydia Wood, in a letter to parents, said the situation was dealt with “swiftly and immediately to ensure the safety of our students.”

According to Wood’s letter, the district is responding to the incident by “increasing the presence of security officers in the school during morning arrival.”
Southfield Public Schools has a “No Tolerance” policy for weapon possession. The Southfield Police will also begin conducting unannounced sweeps and locker searches with police dogs.
