A vote Friday will determine whether the Detroit water system will be governed by a regional authority. The Great Lakes Water Authority is expected to approve a 40-year lease that would hand over the control of the water system from the city to the tri-county area. A no vote would disband the Water Authority and leave the system in the city’s control. Five out of six votes are needed to approve the lease. it’s expected to pass. the plan was put together as part of the Detroit bankruptcy case.
