Federal probe looks into whether airlines colluded to keep fares high

AirplaneThe Department of Justice suspects “unlawful coordination” between several airlines — keeping the number of available seats low to keep prices high. Investigators seek documents and communications which they think could prove that. American, Southwest, and United Airlines confirm they have received subpoenas, and they say they plan on cooperating with the investigation. American Airlines even went a step further, saying air travelers have greatly benefited over the last two years, and the airline says the investigation will show that.
