Oncologist Dr. Farid Fata has been sentenced to 45 years in prison this morning in federal court after misdiagnosing numerous patients with cancer and ordering unnecessary chemotherapy treatments. Fata plead guilty to 16 of 23 counts against him back in September including healthcare fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to receive kickbacks. Fata fraudulently billed insurance companies $34 million according to federal prosecutors. The court is also imposing a drug and alcohol treatment program for Fata while in prison.
