Decision made on the Toledo Jeep Plant

A decision has been made on the fate of the Toledo Jeep plant. Chrysler will keep production of the Jeep Wrangler at Toledo, where a new pickup based on the Wrangler will be built. However, Toledo will lose the Jeep Cherokee. Automotive News says the new Wrangler production will soften the blow of losing the Cherokee, which is the company’s top vehicle.

The Wrangler goes on a frame, the Cherokee is unibody which shares a platform with the Chrysler 200 built at Sterling Heights, where the new Cherokee may move with minimal expense. Details will be announced after labor contract talks with the UAW.
