Former president of Detroit Federation of Teachers says he wants to form a new union

The former president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers says he’ll try to form a new teachers union. Steve Conn did not get the two-thirds majority vote needed to overturn his ouster by the union’s executive board at a packed meeting. However, a majority of those teachers who attended voted to return him to the presidency of the union. Some teachers have pledged to stop paying their union dues. Conn, 57, was stripped of his title and expelled last month after being convicted of five misconduct charges.
