White Boy Rick will not be re-sentenced

Richard Wershe, the Detroiter once known by the name White Boy Rick, will not be re-sentenced for his drug crime. After a ruling by the Michigan Court of Appeals Earlier this month, a judge ruled Werche would be re-sentenced for the drug offense that put him behind bars at the age of 17 for life. Prosecutors immediately appealed. The 46-year-old Wershe was sentenced at 17 to a life sentence without parole in 1988 for possession to deliver more than 650 grams of a controlled substance. A U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2010 abolished so-called “lifer” laws, calling them “cruel and unusual punishment.”
