In Waterford 39 firefighters will be laid off next week. Federal grant money that allowed the department to hire them has run out. This fire department serves two communities, Waterford and Pontiac. Officials with the Waterford Regional Fire Department say the firefighters will be laid off October 15th and the Williams Lake Road fire station will shutdown. The firefighters were hired two years ago through a nearly $8 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security.The grant money has run out, and there’s no word on whether more will be on the way.
