UAW-GM bargaining committee reaches agreement

The UAW has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with General Motors. The deal came just minutes before a midnight strike deadline. The UAW’s bargaining committee unanimously voted to send the contract to the UAW National GM Council. The Council will meet in Detroit on Wednesday. They will discuss and vote on it. No terms will be releaesd until the Council approves it.

The union says the agreement, a four year deal, has stable long-term significant wage gains and job security commitments. The union’s National GM Council  is expected to approve the tentative proposal.  Rank-and-file GM workers will then vote to approve or reject it. GM is the second Detroit automaker to negotiate with the UAW. Only Ford remains
