Celebrating 15 years of human life in space

Space Station

The International Space Station made its first stop in space 15 years ago. Nasa astronaut William Shepard was joined on the orbiting laboratory with Russian cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalev on November 2, 2000. The first team stayed aboard the space station for more than a year. Since then, teams continued to occupy the station and conduct research, including experiments on the world’s only microgravity laboratory. Data received from space station research will be used for future Mars missions. This Monday, November 2nd, the space station’s current 44-member crew will talk on live radio.
