Snyder to sign road funding bills package

Governor Snyder is set to sign the road funding bills package Tuesday. The governor wanted $1.2 billion in new revenue. The republican controlled legislature gave him $600 million in new revenue and $600 million from the state’s general fund. As for the new revenue, 400 million is coming from a 7.3 cent-a-gallon hike in gas and diesel taxes and another 200 million from a 20% hike in registration fees.  Those increases don’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2017, after the next election. Critics say the plan doesn’t get funding to Michigan’s crumbling roads quickly enough. The full $1.2 billion won’t kick in until 2021.
