Trial set for UofM fraternity brothers

sigma alpha mu crest 2

A trial is scheduled to begin on Wednesday for two former University of Michigan fraternity brothers. Prosecutors say the former president and treasurer of the now-closed Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, Josh Kaplan and Zach Levin, provided alcohol, controlled substances, and a place for minors to drink. They are charged with misdemeanors because the wild weekend party at the Tree Tops Resort near Gaylord, Michigan resulted in thousands of dollars of damages. Two other members of the fraternity, Jesse Krumholz and Matthew Vlasic, were previously sentenced to community service and ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution. Treetops officials say damage to the resort earlier this year totaled about $230,000.
