Transgender murders on the rise

The National Coalition of Anti-violence reports the number of transgender murders is on the rise. This year, 22 murders of the transgender community have been recorded. That’s compared with 12 in 2014 and 13 in 2013. Minorities account for 19 of the 22 deaths. The NCAVP representative says Black and Latino transgender women are often killed by a lover.  Detroit, Philadelphia, and Kansas City confirmed homicides of transgender people this year.  Ashton O’Hara and Amber Monroe were both murdered this year in Detroit this summer. Police arrested a 37-year-old man for Ashton’s murder.
