Detroit father’s son finds short barreled weapon and tragedy follows

A preliminary examination is scheduled Wednesday for 45-year-old Detroit resident Christopher Head. Head’s 9-year-old son found a loaded short-barreled shotgun at Head’s home, located on 6600 block of Barton, on Detroit’s west side. The boy then picked up the weapon and shot himself. Detroit Police Chief says if the weapon had been locked away, the tragedy wouldn’t have occurred. Head is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second degree child abuse, and weapons charges.
