Dionte Travis returns to trial for murder of French Street artist

An 18-year-old Detroit man already convicted of armed robbery in connection with the slaying of a 23- year-old French Street artist is scheduled to stand trial on Monday for a second-time murder charge. Dionte Travis, along with three other felons, shot to death artist Bilal Berreni in 2013 in the abandoned Brewster Projects. Two of the men already charged with Berreni’s murder are 21-year-old Drequone Rich, who subsequently pled guilty in September to a second degree murder charge and was sentenced to 23-40 years in prison, and 18-year-old Jasin Curtis pled guilty last June and was sentenced to 25-40 years in prison.  Travis went to trial, but a hung jury was declared. His new trial is ordered for Monday.
