Mayor who served prison time for public corruption charges is back in office

Joe Ganim

Joe Ganim is officially the mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut, … again. His swearing-in ceremony Tuesday night capped off a stunning political comeback. It comes after he served seven years in prison for public corruption during his last stint as Chief Executive of Connecticut’s largest city. The Democrat accepted the oath of office from his father, George Ganim, as hundreds looked on. It marked the sixth time Ganim has taken the oath, this time becoming the city’s 54th mayor. Ganim promised the crowd an approachable city hall, a diverse government and better morale at the city police department. He acknowledged a year ago he wouldn’t have dreamt or conceived of being sworn in as mayor once again. Ganim says he knows how to create new jobs and pledged to “bring Bridgeport back together.”
