Thieves steal Toys for Tots bins

Toys for Tots logo

Police officers in three suburban communities say thieves are targeting the Toys for Tots charity bins that provides kids with Christmas gifts. In Westland, the bin located at Independent Carpet One was taken. Two men smoothly showed up Friday and announced they were picking up the toys. The receptionist noticed their truck was loaded with about six other Toys for Tots boxes. It’s believed the suspects are the same people who broke into a Toys for Tots warehouse earlier this week in Inkster, where they broke a window to enter but could not get all the way in. Witnesses described the thieves as two white men in their 50’s. One had a mustache and both were wearing yellow reflective vests. They were driving a green flatbed pickup with sides, which looked like a hay hauler with a logo on its side.
