Ford invests $4.5-billion in electric vehicle research

Ford says it plans to invest $4.5-billion in electric vehicle research and add 13 new electric vehicles by 2020. The carmaker says by 2020, 40% of its lineup will be electrified. Ford President and CEO Mark Fields says the impetus for research results from “consumer needs, followed by regulation.” The Ford Focus electric will have a 100-mile range and a fast charge that gives it an 80% charge in 30 minutes. Hints that Ford with introduce an electric vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show in January are in the air.
