In a Facebook post on Monday, volunteer co-chairman of the Colorado Springs ACLU Chapter, Loring Wirbel, wrote, “We have to really reach out to those who might consider voting for Trump and say, ‘This is (Nazi propaganda minister Joseph) Goebbels. This is the final solution. If you are voting for him, I will have to shoot you before Election Day.’” Wirbel said in a later statement that the post was a joke, but on Thursday he resigned under pressure. Facebook removed the post but not until at least one member of the Republican Party reposted it. The ACLU condemned Wirbel’s post and reiterated that its members’ personal posts do not reflect the views of the civil rights organization.
