The Detroit Police Commission has its power back

The Detroit Police Commission has its power back. The board was stripped of its control when the emergency manager was appointed. Commissioner Willie Burton says now that the oversight body is back in the mix he wants to make sure investigators are equipped with the right tools. The commission was established back in 1974 in response to the 1967 riots. In 2012 the board went from 5 members to 11 when the new city charter was passed. One of the upcoming issues the board will address is police taser use.
