Trump and Hillary get there digs in before the holiday

Trump and Hillary

On this Christmas Day, the presidential candidates are taking a break. GOP front-runner Donald Trump heads toward 2016 with a significant lead, but correspondent Bob Costantini reports, Trump is continuing a war of words with Hillary Clinton. The Trump campaign was getting in its last digs before supposedly taking a break from the presidential contest. Responding to Trump’s Monday comment about Clinton’s getting overtaken by Barack Obama in the 2008 democratic contest, with trump using a somewhat vulgar term, Clinton told the Des Moines Register, “It’s not the first time he’s demonstrated, ya know, a penchant for sexism.”

Off the campaign trail for a few days, Trump still took the time to tweet, “Hillary, when you complain about a penchant for sexism, who are you referring to? I have great respect for women. Be careful.” Trump campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson was on CNN Wednesday night and hinted at why Clinton needs to be careful: “Hillary Clinton has some nerve to talk about the war on women and the bigotry towards women, when she has a serious problem in her husband.” Pierson made it clear Bill Clinton’s womanizing history, including the Monica Lewinsky scandal that helped launch his impeachment, is fair game, as far as the Trump team is concerned. She said, “I could think of quite a few women that’ve been bullied by Hillary Clinton to hide her husband’s misogynist, sexist secrets.” The Clinton campaign did not respond Thursday, but the latest CNN/ORC national poll shows in a theoretical matchup, Clinton is slightly ahead of Trump among all voters.
