Bass player shot and killed in Detroit on Christmas Eve

Thirty-three-year-old Eastpointe bass guitar player, Anthony Tolson, finished performing at Detroit’s Central Baptist Church on Christmas Eve then left to go to his mother’s home on Detroit’s east side. The plan was to open gifts at his mother’s home with his three children in the morning. For the long-term, Tolson was training to become an ordained minister, but his plans were cut short. Detroit Police spokeswoman Cassandra Lewis told the Free Press that around 9:30 p.m. after the church service, two assailants ordered Tolson out of his vehicle near Gratiot and State Fair Avenue, shots were fired, and Tolson was killed. The suspects drove away in the vehicle with the bass guitar and Christmas gifts. No information has been released regarding the shooters. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Homicide Division at 313-596-2260.
