Presidential campaign attention moves to South Carolina

Republican and Democrat

This week, presidential campaign attention turns a few days to South Carolina, which holds the first Southern primary. A republicans’ debate is scheduled in Charleston Thursday night, with Democrats holding a session there next Sunday evening. Bob Costantini is following the run-up, three weeks to Iowa’s caucuses: For Donald Trump, win or come in second, in Iowa or elsewhere, he’s staying in the race. Trump said on NBC’s Meet the Press, “there’s no maybes. I’m going all the way.” Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Senator Ted Cruz is trying to appear gentler than Trump on the immigration issue, especially in regard to mass deportations. Cruz said, “I don’t intend to send jackboots to knock on your door and every door in America. That’s not how we enforce the law for any crime.”
