At around 3:00am, Ecorse police got a call of a smell of gas coming from Dingell Park. Police and DTE Energy crews were sent to the scene, but eventually left the park. Mike Moore is the Ecorse Public Safety Director.
A DTE Energy Spokesperson says there was a gas leak a few miles away at 7 Mile and Mill. The gas was able to make its way into the sewer system in the restroom. As for what caused the explosion, Moore says he has an idea.
More than likely, Moore says the building will need to come down and be rebuilt.
