Some processed foods are good for you

Salsa

There’s been so much hype in the past several months regarding the dangers of processed foods: “Stay away from processed meat,” “Pop isn’t good for you,” and the dangers of artificial sweeteners. Diet & Nutrition magazine posted an article, though, that brings some balance to the process foods arguments. Registered Dietician Johannah Sakimura wants you to know that processed food doesn’t necessarily mean processed food is unhealthy, frozen foods almost equate to fresh food nutritional content, and it’s okay to opt for quick and easy in today’s times. Diet & Nutrition lists “12 Processed Foods You Should Be Eating:”

  • Canned Beans
  • Frozen Vegetables and Fruits
  • Whole-Grain Pasta
  • Nut Butters and Packaged Nuts
  • Yogurt
  • Bagged Popcorn
  • Hummus
  • Individually-Portioned Cheese
  • Canned and Frozen Fish
  • Jarred Marinara Sauce and Salsa
  • Whole-Grain Breads and Crackers
  • Naturally Flavored (Unsweetened) Seltzers and Waters
