Renowned street graffiti artist Shepard Fairey is scheduled to go on trial Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. The 45-year-old Los Angeles-based artist came to Detroit last May after was authorized to paint an 18-story mural on One Campus Martius. While he was there, however, he also stuck posters on nine buildings without the owner’s permission. Prosecutors say the stickers were put on with glue that was very difficult to remove and that the eventual cleanup costs were in excess of $30,000. Fairey was charge with two counts of malicious destruction of a building.
