Fiat Chrysler plans more Jeep and SUV production in the U.S.

Jeep Compass 2015

Fiat Chrysler plans to use it’s U.S. plants to build more pickups and SUV’s, and fewer cars: large vehicle equate to big profits and small vehicles equate to small profits. Fiat Chrysler will realign its production plans to increase U.S. output of Ram pickups and Jeep SUV’s while sending passenger car production to foreign plants. CEO Sergio Marchionne says Chrysler can make the plant operation changes without requiring new plants. Toledo officials were hoping a new plant would be added to their Jeep complex, but now that won’t happen. Chrysler is looking to partner with foreign automakers to build the smaller cars.
