The Affluenza teen stays in juvenile detention … for now

A judge ruled the “Affluenza” teen, Ethan Couch, will stay in juvenile detention while he awaits his February 19 hearing. The next hearing will determine whether Couch will transfer to an adult prison system. Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving had pushed to have Couch imprisoned because of the extent of damage caused: Couch was under probation at the time and had a blood alcohol level more than three times the limit when he caused a 2013 accident that left four dead and nine injured. Tarrant County Prosecutor Richard Alpert stated after the hearing, “Our goal is to put him in the adult system and wait for him to do what I believe he will do.” The one month Couch spent in a Mexico jail will not count toward time served.
