A warning from authorities: the ice is not safe. This follows the tragic deaths of a father and little boy. A 30-year-old father and his four-year-old son died after being plunging into the icy waters of a lake in Highland Township Monday morning.  David Michael Lyons and 4-year-old Jackson Lyons were ice fishing on Alderman Lake in Highland Township when they fell into the water, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard says dive crews were on the scene quickly, but it was too late.  “This is a horrific reminder that we should always hold safety first when we undertake water related activities,” He said in a statement. “No ice is safe ice, especially due to the mild weather we have experienced this winter. “Our thoughts are with the family during this unthinkable time.”
