Retired workers are pushing back on cuts to their retirement deals. About 1,500 Wayne County retirees have sued in an attempt to stop the county from imposing health care changes that they say would cost them thousands of dollars per year. The suit, filed Monday as a class action in U.S. District Court, seeks to stop the healthcare changes. The attorney representing the retirees, Jim Akhtar, says the county is planning to impose the changes March 1 without notifying the retirees. Those changes would raise the retiree medical insurance premium from 10% to 25% and institute a deductible of up to $2,600 for a family. County Executive Warren Evans, Wayne County Commission Chair Gary Woronchak D-Dearborn, and others involved with the retirement system were also named as defendants.
