Frank Beckmann testimony in teachers union case delayed

Frank Beckmann

UPDATE: A court hearing over teacher sickouts, and whether they constitute illegal strikes, has been delayed. A former head of the Detroit teachers union faces a civil lawsuit by the Detroit district. Steve Conn called for a city-wide strike in an interview on the Frank Beckmann show. Frank has been subpoenaed for the hearing.

A former head of a Detroit teachers union must answer questions about the sickouts by teachers in a courtroom. The Detroit Public School District sued the Detroit Federation of Teachers earlier this year. The lawsuit contends the teachers engaged in illegal strikes that closed dozens of schools on several occasions. State law prevents teachers from striking.

A judge dismissed the case against the union, but kept the charges of illegal strike against Steve Conn, former president of DFT and Nicole Conway. Both are organizers of the protest group ‘By Any Means Necessary.” Tapes from a Frank Beckmann show have been subpoenaed by the court, in which Conn calls for a city-wide teachers strike. Beckmann has been subpoenaed to appear.
