Duggan Moves On City Jobs

Detroit Mayor Duggan wants to expand the city policy on requirements for how many city residents get jobs at building projects.
Currently 51 percent of workers on projects have to be Detroit residents. The Detroit News says Mayor Duggan is expanding the executive order to all projects paid for by the city, like parks or sewer lines. One major problem: a shortage of qualified workers in Detroit. Contractors cannot find qualified employees from Detroit.
This has already cost Olympia Development $500,000 in fines for the hockey arena project. The money goes into a workforce training fund.
