Detroit: Let There Be Lights

lights

The effort to install 65,000 LED streetlights across the city is finished. The final stretch of lights to be replaced were turned on at Riopelle and Atwater on the east riverfront area.

The Public Lighting authority, with the backing of Mayor Mike Duggan, completed the project one year ahead of schedule, and under budget. Half of Detroit’s streetlights were not functioning, in some cases leaving entire neighborhoods in the dark.

Detroit is now the largest city in America to be 100-percent lit with LED lighting.

Detroit’s new streetlights are brighter and more energy efficient than the sodium lights that they replaced.
