Parking Lot Fighter Faces Law

A 23 year old Commerce Township man is no longer a welcome shopper in the Meijer’s store in Commerce.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for today for Chase Mathews.

Police had been called to the Meijer’s store on Haggerty road on January 29th.

Officers learned that Mathews and his 19 year old pregnant girlfriend had been arguing in the parking lot and that the woman ran into the store and asked for help.

An employee tried to intervene and was punched in the face and Mathews fled.

Police didn’t have to go far to find him.

He was found at a bar across the street.

He started fighting when police tried to arrest him and a taser was used to bring him down.

Sheriffs officials say Mathews has a criminal record that includes arrests Oregon, Georgia, New Jersey and Connecticut.
