ISIS Admirer To Be Sentenced

A Dearborn Heights man accused of being a supporter of the radical ISIS organization is to be sentenced today in Detroit Federal Court.

22 year old Khalil Abu Rayyan has been in federal detention for more than 13 months.

He came under FBI surveillance in 2015 after he boasted of plans to shoot up a Detroit church.

He was never charged with a terrorism-related crime, but did plead guilty to making a false statement in order to purchase a firearm.

Defense attorneys say Rayyan never intended to carry out any threats, but was just an immature man tried to impress a woman.

Sentencing guidelines on the gun charge call for 15 to 21 months in prison.

The U-S attorneys office wants him to spend at least eight years in prison … saying they still consider him a threat.
