Swank Home Teardown Lawsuit Heads To Court

A Farmington Hills home that was built on top of an 18 inch leaking sewer pipe is the center of concern in a lawsuit being heard in Oakland County Circuit court.

The lawsuit was filed by the Ten Mile Rouge Drainage District.

It owns the leaking pipe and wants the home bulldozed before it collapses and backs up sewage into surrounding homes, businesses and rivers, it says.

It wants the current homeowners to pay for the demolition.

They have counter-sued the drainage district, the city of Farmington Hills and Flagstar bank.

They purchased the 750-thousand dollar home from the bank in 2008 after te bank had foreclosed on the couple who had built the home on top of the pipe.

Judge Nanci Grant questioned whether the sewer pipe can be repaired or rerouted.

She ordered all parties to try and to resolve the matter through mediation.

They’re due back in court today.
