He was facing an eviction … now, he’s facing a conviction.
A preliminary exam has been scheduled for today for 68 year old Lawrence Turvill of Detroit.
He is facing 20 counts of felonious assault.
A 36th district court officer went to a location in the 800 block of Wheelock to serve an eviction notice involving Turvill’s van.
When the officer attempted to tow the van, Turvill’s started shouting threats and came out of the van armed with a rifle and fired several shots at the officer, who then returned fire.
Turvill was hit, but ran back into the van where he held officers at bay for several hours before a police negotiator convinced him to surrender.
He was then treated at the hospital for his wounds.
