The last of 13 Detroit public school educators involved in a kickback scheme is scheduled to be sentenced today.
50 year old school principal Josette Buendia was the only one charged with taking kickbacks who refused to cut a deal.
She wanted, and got a trial.
A jury in December convicted her on three counts, one of conspiracy and two of bribery.
She had contended during the trial that the Detroit schools were a broken system and that she simply used the money to help her students and teachers.
Government prosecutors say she accepted more than 40-thousand dollars in bribes and kickbacks from ex-vendor Norman Shy.
Shy and 12 others pled guilty in the case and were sentenced to between six months and five years in prison.
