Plans On Drawing Board For Vacant Mall

The old Summit Place Mall could be turned into a sports and entertainment complex, according to a site proposal presented to the Waterford Twp. board. Local reps for the California based company that owns the long-vacant mall property were given until November to firm up their plans. Developers envision a sports and entertainment complex that could include indoor and outdoor soccer fields, ice rinks, a hotel and an IMAX movie theater. These are not promises, but just ideas. Township officials have long wanted to tear down the old buildings of the mall, but no one wants to cover the 4-million dollar cost, and the owners have refused to tear it down.
