Old Rape Kits Nail Serial Rape Suspect

A Port Huron man accused of sexual assaults stemming from old rape kits is due in court today.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy say 46 year old Anthony Thornton is facing multiple counts of sexual assault, kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.

He was charged after old rape kits were processed in Detroit.

Worthy said the charges stem from crimes reported in 2010 and 2011.

She says her office was assisted by the Fair Michigan Justice Project, a program that helps in solving crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals a transgenders.

Worthy said many of the attacks occurred in Detroit.

She says the rape kit that led to Thornton’s arrest had sat untested for years and was only recently processed.
