The Detroit Public Schools Community District has selected a new superintendent to lead the district.
The board voted unanimously to approve Nikolai Vitti, the current superintendent of Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida.
Vitti has not officially been hired. The vote means they will begin negotiations with him to take the job. That’s expected to lead to the formal job offer.
The school board also approved a motion towards a consultant contract with Vitti that would include interim superintendent Alyvia Meriweather, whose term ends June 30. Vitti is a native of the Detroit area.
