Talks Snagged To Get DPS Superintendent

Officials hope contract talks can begin today between the Detroit school board and Nikolai Vitti, the choice of the board to be the districts new school superintendent.

Union activist Robert Davis asked for a temporary restraining order that would stop the negotiations from taking place behind closed doors.

He claims the board held a meeting and created a subcommittee to negotiate with Vitti, in violation of the Open Meetings Act.

The district says no such committee was formed.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Brian Sullivan asked for a copy of an audio made at the board meeting so that he can determine what took place.

He said he would conduct anther hearing today if he found it necessary before ruling on the request for a restraining order.
