Marine Drill Sgt. Arraigned For Death Of Recruit

A Marine drill instructor charged in the death of a recruit from Taylor is scheduled to be arraigned today.
Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Felix is accused of several violations of the military code including cruelty and maltreatment in the death of 20 year old Raheel Siddiqui.

The 20 year old died in a fall from a stairwell at the Marine training base at Paris Island, South Carolina in March of last year.

A coroner at the base initially ruled the death a suicide.

Family members rejected that finding.

They say Felix had accused Siddiqui of being a terrorist and had slapped the Marine recruit.

The family has also urged that more serious charges be brought against Felix, possibly manslaughter.

Felix is also facing charges related to another Muslim recruit being abused and who was burned after being ordered into a clothes dryer on the base after it was turned on.
