Can Packard Site Be Fixed? Ask The Man Who Owns It

The city’s old Packard plant on East Grand Boulevard was once a part of Detroit’s industrial glory.

Today, marks the start of a new beginning for the old ruins.

A groundbreaking is taking place for the 16-million dollar first phase of plans to turn the blighted are into a new redevelopment project.

The property is owned by Lima, Peru developer Fernando Palazuelo, who will be on hand for today’s ceremony.

He says his ultimate goal is to turn the 40-acre site into a thriving center of commerce and cultural activities over the next decade.

Some city officials says it won’t be an easy project, that tearing down the structure and cleaning out the polluted soil could cost as much as 20 million dollars.
