DTE says climate change is the defining policy issue of the time— and as a result, DTE says it plans an 80% reduction in carbon emissions and the closing of all of its coal-fired power plants by the year 2050.
The utility says it will produce 40% of it’s power from natural gas power plants; 40% from renewable energy, primarily wind power; and 20% from nuclear. DTE chairman and CEO Gerry Anderson says in a statement “climate change is a big deal.”
DTE says seven old coal-fired power plants would soon require expensive upgrades.
