Boil Water Advisory Issued For Thousands Of Users

Residents are being urged to boil their water before using it after the Livonia water system lost pressure. The boil water advisory affects all of Livonia and part of Farmington Hills.

A drop in pressure in the water system can cause bacterial contamination.

Officials say you should bring water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or to use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

The loss in water pressure was due to a DTE power failure.
Officials said they expect water to be back to normal by Tuesday.
